Holly Sherman of HOLLY JEAN

HOLLY JEAN came to fruition in 2008, when pregnant with her first child, Holly Sherman wanted to combine motherhood with her long term ambition of starting her own small business.

The inspiration for HOLLY JEAN came from a willingness to create a range of children’s products designed to complement a modern parent’s home and lifestyle, whilst also appealing to a child.

Aware of the distinct trend that has grown over the last couple of years of the demand for hand made children’s products that are individual and unique in nature, Holly wanted to develop products in line with her passions and self-expression, and move away from the mass-produced. It was important that within the HOLLY JEAN range, not only would each style be a limited edition, but that no two pieces within that style be alike.

An important component of the HOLLY JEAN brand is that it is proudly designed and made in Australia.

Being acutely aware of the demise in Australian manufacturing, Holly was passionate about keeping things local. Choosing not to manufacture off shore also meant greater quality control and more creative power.

The design process brings great joy to Holly, along with the marketing, PR and promotion side of things. Being an online business it’s nice to have regular contact with local sewers, quilters and media.

HOLLY JEAN regularly showcases at various boutique hand made markets around Australia, which is also something Holly enjoys about her job. As Holly explains, “It’s lovely to have orders randomly coming in online from all across the country, however meeting people at markets not only increases my brand awareness, they provide valuable feedback, and it’s nice to have the face to face interaction.”

HOLLY JEAN continues to grow and evolve. Whilst starting with patchwork quilts and blankets, HOLLY JEAN has already added bloomers, play pants, headbands, bibs and soon to be released cushions to the range.

With a second bub on the way (due July), the remaining 6 months of 2010 will no doubt be challenging yet rewarding for Holly! View Holly's gorgeous product online at  http://www.hollyjean.com.au/
