Lara Soloman

LARA SOLOMON:

Award-Winning Business Entrepreneur
Lara Solomon, winner in the NSW Telstra Micro Business Awards 2008, has struck gold since finding the
motivation to leave her high-profile career to start a new business and launch an unknown product in to the
market place … making a success of it (a million dollar success that is!)
LaRoo is the brainchild of Lara Solomon and the company that brought Australia (and the world) the original
mobile phone sock or “Mock” – now an iconic brand with over 1.6 million Mocks already sold worldwide in
Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA.
Mocks – Mobile Phone Socks
It was in March 2004 that Lara started LaRoo and launched the product Mocks.
Why Mocks? Mocks are your everyday, essential fashion accessory; designed to
protect small electronic devices from scratches, sunburn or the cold. Mocks ensure
your goods stay in top nick, while expressing your personality.
With strategic marketing and a solid business approach, LaRoo grew a huge 46% on
average per month in the first nine months.

Brand New Day
In October 2008 Lara published her book Brand New Day – The Highs and Lows of Starting a Small Business is
a true, funny and brutally honest Bridget Jones’ Diary style account of starting a new business. Brand New Day
follows Lara on her journey through the successful growth of her company LaRoo, as well as her compelling
relationships with employees, friends and family. Readers experience a fly-on-the-wall view in to the mistakes
she made along the way – sometimes at a huge expense.

Social Rabbit – Social Media consulting
In January 2010, after HUGE success with her Mocks brand on Facebook (12,000 fans in under 3 months and
doubling of online sales), Lara saw that other businesses needed help with their social media. She created
Social Rabbit as a way to offer education and consulting advice to businesses large and small. Her vision is to
help businesses achieve their goals through social media.

Steps – Online social media training site
February 2011 saw the launch of Steps, a joint venture between Social Rabbit and Blue Chilli Technology. Lara
realised that businesses both small and large needed help using Facebook to promote themselves, but just
didn’t know where to start.
A global problem that was fixed with the launch of Steps for Facebook, an
interactive online training software that steps you through everything you need to know to start, grow, manage
and promote your Facebook page.

Lara also regularly speaks on social media, marketing and small business topics to networking groups, university students and companies.

Rebecca Derrington Founder of SourceBottle

We are delighted to announce Rebecca Derrington founder of SourceBottle as a Guest Speaker at the 2011 Mumpreneurs Conference!

SourceBottle founder Rebecca Derrington has a simple vision: for every journalist using the service to be INUNDATED with quality sources; and for every SourceBottle subscriber to get FAMOUS using it.

Rebecca is an experienced public relations and marketing strategist, as well as a qualified drama coach and workplace trainer. These skills have helped her get results for clients for more than 12 years.

Before pursuing a career in public relations and marketing, Rebecca practised as a lawyer (for about three minutes), but quickly realised she was more passionate about public relations and marketing. So, she started over - completing a business degree and working up to executive and senior management marketing, public relations and corporate communication roles in the services sector. And she never looked back.

After the birth of her first child, Rebecca started her own public relations firm, Wagging Tongues. It was then that she recognised a need for a service that gave journalists and bloggers an opportunity to ‘call out’ for sources. She knew PR professionals and businesses would also benefit, since both could feel more confident their ‘pitches’ would bring about the desired outcome: highly coveted publicity and media attention.
Just over a year ago, Rebecca decided to create this service and deliver it to everyone for free.

Just over a year ago, SourceBottle was born.

Rebecca will be presenting "How To Get The Media To Notice You"
Rebecca will show you how to uncover and hook media opportunities, as well as share her tips for getting your business front and centre!
